So do you see it that way? Or is it just me? Yeah.

Théodora ArmstrongGUEST
It's kind of tricky for me like setting was I don't see it as a character for me that was like very it was very clearly setting and I think like setting it was like a bit of a challenge for this book because you know we're seeing Japan through the eyes of a foreigner and so it's kind of an unreliable impression of the country and I also couldn't because this is someone who's coming here who's new you know, Maggie like comes to Japan knowing nothing about the country, speaking no Japanese.

Théodora ArmstrongGUEST
She's always making these cultural mistakes, you know, and doesn't know what's going on half the time.

Théodora ArmstrongGUEST
And so, you know, because it's this unreliable kind of impression, you know, I didn't feel like I could get very deep into Japanese culture and the country.

Théodora ArmstrongGUEST
So there's when you're, you know, speaking from experience, having been there for a year, you know, you can really only skim the surface of a culture.

And I think that's such a, um, universal feeling and I thought it was so beautifully done in your novel.
