What are some other things that you're advocating for us, you know, for New Mexicans in general and for your congressional district specifically on Capitol Hill? What's going on that we should know about? So
32:53
I was here yesterday up in Lovington.
32:57
I love your Norley Hospital, by the way.
32:59
It's a wonderful hospital.
33:00
It's a wonderful hospital.
33:02
And you have a great hospital here.
33:03
I'll be going there a little later.
37:43
Final thoughts and words before we end this conversation, which I know hopefully will be an ongoing one as you get more chances to come back to the district, Congresswoman.
51:54
Um, I, I'm wondering, Congresswoman Fernandez, where do you see the biggest issues in this case where the system failed, and what do you think could be learned from this for the work you're doing on Capitol Hill?
52:06
Uh, thank you.
52:07
I think it r- is important to tie the rise in sexual violence and then the public outrage about it, whether it be at a college campus, uh, in the military, or in Congress.
52:20
Uh, it is in essence the same thing, where you have men, uh, abusing their power over women.
52:27
And that is something that needs to change, and we need to be able to change both the rules and the laws, and then the culture that allows this to take place.
52:36
Listen, four men, uh, from Congress are not coming back next year because the public outrage over their sexual abuse forced them from power.
52:45
I brought the resolution to expel Gonzalez together with the Republican to expel Swalwell.
57:10
As a father who has two daughters working on Capitol Hill, this is as personal to me as it is to anyone." Does the Speaker agree with the bipartisan reforms you're proposing?
52:45
I'm wondering Congresswoman Fernandez where do you see the biggest issues in this case where the system failed and what do you think could be learned from this for the work you're doing on Capitol Hill?
52:57
Thank you.
52:58
I think it is important to tie the rise in sexual violence and then the public outrage about it, whether it be at a college campus, in the military, or in Congress.
53:11
It is, in essence, the same thing, where you have men abusing their power over women.
53:18
And that is something that needs to change, and we need to be able to change that.
53:21
both the rules and the laws and then the culture that allows this to take place.
53:26
Listen, four men from Congress are not coming back next year because the public outrage over their sexual abuse forced them from power.
58:07
Does the speaker agree with the bipartisan reforms you're proposing?
14:05
What are you seeing on the ground in New Mexico right now? And what about this particular arrest has you so concerned?
14:15
Thank you for having me on and thank you for your program.
14:18
I think it's really important that we have these conversations around how ICE is terrorizing our communities in every community, even in New Mexico, right? We're like 49% Latino, so we're very concerned when ICE comes into our community.
14:33
And we used to, under prior administrations, places of worship, schools, schools, health clinics.
14:39
We're off limits because we want to make sure that we can go pray, get education, and get our health care without being worried.
14:47
And what we're seeing now is ICE is literally stalking people.
14:51
They are going after you, following you.

Every order is backed by their 365-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it with confidence.
50:43
Um, tell me what you think about all this.
50:47
So we have, uh, a pattern of abuse that Max Miller has clearly engaged in.
50:53
And that kind of domestic abuse is often preceded by abuse.
50:58
But there's a difference between whether you should be criminally charged, what's happening in your marriage, and whether you should continue to serve in Congress.
51:08
Serving in Congress is an incredible privilege, and somebody who has the accusations and allegations, not just by one, but three different women, your father-in-law calling you to step down, Republican senators calling for you to step down and resign, you should step down and resign.
51:25
And he should listen.
51:27
I have called for Democrats to step down, to resign, or to be expelled, uh, Graham Plattner, uh, Eric Swalwell, as well as Republicans.
55:04
What's going on on Capitol Hill where all these deluded old men think these young women wanna date them?
33:07
I wonder what you think, Congressman Lesnar Fernandez, about why this is such a pervasive problem on Capitol Hill.
33:15
I think Kat laid it out really well.
33:17
It is about power imbalance.
33:19
And we need to remember that there has been a power imbalance between women and men across many agencies, across many industries.
33:28
One in four women in the United States are sexually assaulted or abused.
33:32
But what we need to say is that that cannot happen in Congress, that Congress needs to hold itself up to a higher standard.
33:40
precisely because the women who come to serve in Congress, they are answering their own calling of wanting to be involved in public service, and they are willing to do so much to make sure that they can serve their constituencies, they can serve their party, whether it's Democrat or Republican, and so it makes it ripe for men, and it is mostly men, to take advantage of that power imbalance to say, well, I am everything in this world, and I get to use you as prey.
36:22
So Congresswoman Leisure Fernandez, how many more staffers, for example, have come forward to say, you know what, now I feel more confident to step up and say what happened to me? Can you give us a sense? And are you seeing more male members of Congress being willing to cooperate on this effort?

Mm-hmm
46:45
... through May, and I said, "Uh-uh." That, staying on through May isn't enough.
46:50
You need to resign and resign immediately.
46:52
And the reality to your question is why did we do it? Because if we wouldn't have filed the mo- the resolutions to expel, they wouldn't have resigned.
47:03
And when you think of what the evidence that came out with regards to Swalwell was overwhelming, and he kept nudging.
47:10
He denied it as well.
47:12
His initial denials were, "I didn't have sex," right? And then his subsequent denials were, "I didn't have sexual assault." Now, our code says no sex, because the reason why there is no sexual relationships with a staffer is 'cause that power relationship can never be undone.

... let's talk about what needs to happen going forward.
36:18
Yep.
36:18
... beautiful e- beautifully diverse state of New Mexico.
36:21
Um, but I'm also the chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus, and I think right now, we are in a place where women are not safe in, uh, Trump's America, where people who might be just walking along the street are not safe in Trump's America, and that's kind of, I think what the police officer was saying, right? Where as, uh, when you d- have displays of force, rather than protection of community.
36:49
I think that's kind of what he was touching at.
36:51
And we need to remember that Republicans have cut funding, the kind of federal funding that goes into law enforcement.

14 MINS LATER

51:15
It says, "GOP is helping Trump and the White House to cover up the Epstein files." You believe that?
51:22
I absolutely do, right? And they're covering up the files of pedophiles, right? They refuse to release the files which will incriminate all of those who engaged in this criminal activity.
51:40
And I'm chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus and about 19 of us met with the eight survivors and their attorneys to ask them, what do you need us to do? How can we support you? And they want to not just make sure that those files...
