Do you have an example of a weaponry choice or another combat-related motif that traveled throughout or beyond the Aegean?
10:26
So a lot of times we see it with different, different poses within the smiting pose visual narrative.
10:36
We are seeing that it starts in Egypt, and within a few generations, it then finds its way to the Aegean world.
10:44
But the Aegean is already beginning to define how they want to show power.
10:50
But since they've been trading with Egypt since really almost the dawn of the Bronze Age, if not further back than that in the final Neolithic period, we start to see these Aegean artisans almost coming together and saying, "Okay, this is what Egypt's doing, and this is how they're showing power.
11:06
How can we in our emerging cities and our emerging administrative centers kind of showcase the same thing?" So they take it, develop it further.
11:16
We get beautiful tripartite scenes with three figures, where it's this almost victorious warrior individual who you look at these images and you're like, "Man, I don't agree with Schliemann on a lot of things, but you know, when he was excavating Mycenae, I see what he was saying," that almost all of these images make you think of battles of myth, battles of tales of old with the Homeric epic itself.
15:05
And do you mind giving us an example of, let's say, a blade or a sword or another object and walking us through what the components would be and maybe where the materials would be coming from?
