So we know your fans are so eager to know how you're doing and what can you tell us about how you ended up in the hospital?
27:53
Yeah, I'm doing much better.
27:55
Thank you for asking.
27:56
Yeah, it was really scary.
27:58
I was supposed to be playing at 5 o'clock last Wednesday and I woke up at like 2.30 in the morning feeling like I was getting stabbed in my stomach and like I didn't know what was happening and I thought I had like food poisoning or something and I asked the physio to come to my room at about 7.30 and I'm like, guys, I need something for food poisoning.
28:18
I have a match at five, like, please help me.
28:21
And then I was just feeling so terrible.
31:49
Why was that so important to you?
Steve Weissman
Steve WeissmanCORRESPONDENT
18:15
What, [laughs] what was your mindset entering the third, first three setter?
18:18
setter?I was a bit like, "Oh my God," I was serving for it at 5-3 and, you know, I had, was playing really well.
18:25
And she really stepped up her game, started going for her shots and, you know, was hitting some lines, like some screaming winners, um, passed me a couple of times off of some really good balls.
18:35
And so I didn't feel like necessarily I was doing things w- like wrong.
18:39
I wasn't making the wrong plays.
18:40
I just felt like she was playing a little bit better, and she was down and went for it, and it was landing.
18:46
So going into the third, I just was like, "I'm just gonna keep going." Like I'm doing the right stuff, and then I tried to just be more aggressive and like back myself on the shots where it's like, yeah, I'm setting up the points and I'm getting those opportunities, like I'm just gonna go for it.
19:24
I wanna get into the fashion, 'cause you have been giving us so many looks already, and I wanna know about the inspiration, but I also wanna know how many looks do you have? Because you keep staying until the very end all the time.
21:28
Yeah, it was a world thing.
21:30
And, like, I was reaching, like, 60 million, like, impressions on my page.
21:35
Like, you know what I'm saying? It was crazy.
21:37
Like, the numbers were nuts.
21:39
And so, like, I didn't really go that deep, but I understood what was occurring.
21:46
And so that is why...
21:48
I went in enough to be able to drive whatever that I needed to forward, the message that I wanted to tell them, that I wanted people to know and understand.

6 MINS LATER

27:36
but I just felt that it was like a lot of accountability whether like if I play a good point whatever too good but it's like if you could have gotten a play on it you thought you should have got like done better with the ball you're gonna be like I need to make that ball I need to do better you know and then it's like it's not pity me or someone come and help me fix this or help me in the situation like no no I'm gonna get it done and I'm gonna make it the next time you know so
43:15
Like, they could-
43:15
Yeah, my dad said the same thing.
43:17
He was like, "You would be really good", but he was like, "You would get annoyed because it's a very, like, much skill, you know, very fine things.
43:25
Like, a little bit here, a little bit there." But that's tennis too.
43:28
Like, if you hit the ball a little bit off, you just make a small tweak, and it's gonna change everything.
43:33
So it's like, c- I think mentally I would understand, like, how to make changes, but yeah.

Takes a toll on your body, man.
45:14
It does, but he's been playing for so long, and at such a high level.
43:23
No.
43:24
And, you know, like, my sister got a really bad knee injury that kind of, like, changed her trajectory.
43:30
But ultimately, like, they were, they were a huge inspiration for me.
43:34
Just because I feel like visually you're seeing two Black women doing this at the highest level, and, like, showing you that it's possible.
43:42
And I think, like, that's why I take so much pride in, like, what I do and showing up the way that I do, because, like, the r- I understand from being a young girl playing a sport how important, like, representation is.
44:21
Takes a toll on your body though.
44:22
It does, but he's been playing for so long and at such a high level, like, it's bound to happen.
44:26
Like, you can't, you can't beat the clock.

3:38
No,
3:38
I'm dead serious.
3:39
It's in my head.
3:40
It's, like, the same with Baby Shark.
3:42
It wouldn't come out.
3:43
So, definitely, like, the playlist has changed.
3:46
He also, I mean, it's embarrassing, but I feel like he needs balance.

And ahead of the U S open, how are you feeling?
