Can you explain what it was like and why you started this?

Yeah, sure.

So at the time, um, I was studying accounting, and I was working as a trust accountant in a law firm in Adelaide, and as it happened, someone left there, and the managing partner said, "Do you think you could look after this small debt collection business that we own?" And I was like, "Oh, sure.

How hard could it be?" I mean, I think that's my motto, is, how hard can it be? "Sure, no worries." But when I got talking to people, I realized that, um, debt was having a massive impact on their lives, and they were earning really good money, the clients that I was speaking to, and I was thinking, "Well, uh, why, like, why do you not know what you can afford to pay back on this debt?" And I realized, "Well, you don't have a budget, so I'll help you put a budget together." But then I realized that was just the first step.

That was the easy part.

Actually managing that budget and staying on track was, like, not that, not that easy to do.

So I thought, "Well, I'll refer them somewhere to get some help," and there wasn't anywhere, so I just started helping people myself, and that's where the idea for MyBudget came about.

And there's this particular story, when I was actually in Melbourne at our office there in Essendon and I was walking down Buckley Street and a client just saw me and she'd actually just been into our office.

She'd been a client for a few years and she saw me and again was very emotional and she just said, Tammy, I just have to say to you that your business and your team saved my life.

She said, I was feeling so stressed about my finances and My two boys wouldn't have a mum today if I didn't come and join.

I'm getting shivers just to think that we saved a life.

these boys have their mum and that is how, like she's like, I was so stressed out and, you know, she said, I was in your office just then because we've just organised our first family holiday in five years.

Why haven't you expanded into New

Zealand before now? I would have loved to expand it into New Zealand many, many years ago.

And the reason we have not is because I was rebuilding my technology and I didn't want to bring my legacy technology with the legacy issues and problems into a new market.

And unfortunately, I didn't realise how long it was going to take me to build this new technology stack.

It took me six years, which is about four years longer than what I thought it was going to take and a lot more money than I thought it was going to take.

But that is why.

So I stopped doing any changes or making any changes to my legacy system and said, okay, we're going to stop renovating the old house here.
