A bothy yard would have been the historical centre of gardening on the estate.

So the bothy refers to almost like a bunkhouse where the junior gardeners would have lived.

The head gardener's house is at the back of the yard, it's not part of the estate anymore, but he would have lived within spitting distance of the bothy yard.

But the Bothy was the home for the under junior gardeners but also the yard itself would have had glass houses, coal frames, forcing houses for growing rhubarb out of season.
