So I'm curious to know, in your experience and research, like, how much do the existing ADA standards that regulate the width of doorways or, or the space needed in bathroom stalls, how much do those meet the needs of fat folks?

So certainly it addresses some of the needs in some places.

Um, if we're talking about an overlap between fat and disabled, wheelchair users that are also fat are probably going to be able to find out ahead of time if a specific patient, provider, or service can accommodate them.

But the ADA does not identify weight as a protected class.

The language of the ADA does mention that a person can qualify for protections if they're, quote-unquote, regarded as having a perceived disability.

And so that gets into this weird gray area where being fat in and of itself is not a disability.

There is not one single illness that afflicts only fat bodies.
