There is a lot of information out there about screening.
50:36
Most medical groups agree that for the average-risk woman, screening should begin around the age of 40.
50:43
But you bring up a really important point, 'cause your daughter isn't of average risk.
50:49
Um, she's in a great position, because she has this amazing mom who has shared her status with her, so she knows that she is at above average risk, which I think there's a lesson for all of us in that, to know our risk, know our family history, know if something is different for you, different about your body, and get screened, no matter where you fall in the guidelines.

Now, for individuals who are BRCA2 positive, generally that disease occurs in adulthood, so we don't typically recommend screening for children.
51:21
So for your daughter, when she turns 18, you can ask her, "Are you ready to have a conversation with a genetic counselor?" You can meet with that counselor, who will help her decide if she's ready for testing, and if she does carry the BRCA2 mutation, can then give her appropriate guidance on when early mammograms should start, when early screening should start before her risk begins to increase.
