We all met
14:13
at a or like I'd known Adam already.
14:16
He was a friend of a friend and we chatted a few times.
14:19
And I remember actually one of the first encounters I had with him was in a mutual friend's basement where for some reason we were just left alone hanging out together.
14:30
And he just was just like listing trauma movies I was supposed to watch.
14:34
And like, I think he saw like, oh, this young kid, I should like mentor him.
14:39
Like, show them the ropes on movies, because I was still pretty inexperienced at the time.

41 MINS LATER

56:09
I find there seems to be this real preoccupation with realism and the story has to be really plausible and everything has to be really believable and that maybe we've lost our appreciation of reality fantasy or suspending belief and using imagination when we're watching films maybe if you want to talk a little about that because this is a work of pure fantasy world building imagination and also do you think that the artistry is really like more important than say realism or I don't know how to ask the question, but there you
22:19
I'm told really like probably one of the best ones.
22:24
mean that was one of my biggest challenges was trying to make something out of the eighth movie in a Leprechaun franchise when you don't have the lead returning, and it's for Sci-Fi Channel, I might as well have been making that the ninth Hellraiser sequel, the first one that didn't have Doug Bradley.
22:43
I felt like it was that level of, oh, this is a bad idea.
22:49
Some credit has to go to my love of Full Moon and their franchises.
22:55
I have a passion for franchises, and so when that script came across my desk, even though all signs pointed to like, this is a bad idea.
23:04
I was like, I have like, this is the one I'm being given.
23:07
I have to try.

48 MINS LATER

71:00
Well,
MickeyHOST
116:34
And it, charlie and dustin you know keep praising you and like mickey you need to watch this you watch that it's very true they're finding you and that's really cool it's it's cool that you're just like putting it out there like well this is me i
116:46
appreciate that and yeah it's since i was a kid it's like i've been making stuff making little movies like i started in stop motion when i was 12 and it's the kind of thing like i do genuinely feel like i would still be doing this even if it didn't go to theaters or to Blu-ray or to whatever.
117:02
Like I'm making this stuff because I just love making these things that I like watching them.
117:07
And it's been really nice finding that audience of people who like just seeing how many like-minded people there are out there.
117:15
It's like, I feel like even though, you know, I'm an isolated nerd up here in Canada in my basement doing my stop motion.
117:22
It's cool that I could now like, yeah, we're like sitting on a call here and we're all clearly bro-ing about, similar passions it's like there's this connective tissue that i'm trying to tap into that we all have and it's like a it's finding the shared passion amongst fandom globally really like being able to go to japan and have people like go to a screening of psychogorman and have people flip out for it is like pretty surreal yeah that's the thing so it's like you know it's gratifying but again it all comes down to i just love making the stuff and i'll just be making this stuff until I physically can't do it anymore because the making is, is what I care about.
118:05
And I think that shows on screen.
CharlieHOST
119:17
yeah
12:07
one that has the most fog in it
12:10
smokiest movie i've ever seen and the most vaseline on the lens movie i've ever seen totally um It's like to describe the plot.
12:20
I don't even know really where to start.
12:22
It's such a weird, dreamy kind of nonsense movie.
12:28
But that's what I love about it.
12:29
I love it's like the guy that made the Beyond.
12:33
is like yeah I'll do like a Conan type movie and this is what he came up with I mean it has lots of like weird cheesy stuff like glowing arrows and there's like kind of weird like muck man and stuff like there's there's lots of like creature stuff drifting around through the movie and you know it delivers on the on the nudity as well there's like a like gold-masked topless lady that's like the main villain uh i don't know it's just like there's something about that movie i keep going back to because it it just has There's just a vibe that I like to sink into.

51 MINS LATER

63:52
yeah totally
CoreyHOST
13:04
that has the most fog in it
13:06
the smokiest movie i've ever seen and the most vaseline on the lens movie i've ever seen totally um it's like to describe the plot I don't even know really where to start.
13:18
It's such a weird, dreamy kind of nonsense movie.
13:24
But that's what I love about it.
13:26
I love that the guy that made The Beyond is like, yeah, I'll do a Conan-type movie, and this is what he came up with.
13:35
I mean, it has lots of weird, cheesy stuff, like glowing arrows, and there's like... kind of weird like muck man and stuff like there's there's lots of like creature stuff drifting around through the movie and you know it delivers on the on the nudity as well there's like a like gold-masked topless lady that's like the main villain uh i don't know it's just like there's something about that movie i keep going back to because it it just has There's just a vibe that I like to sink into.
14:12
The score is great.

50 MINS LATER

64:30
yeah i i steve i'm gonna let you go for it because i'll chime in at the end steve your thoughts on masters
8:32
[laughs]
8:32
That really was my, my like MO with this movie, was like I am gonna deliver that half of the poster that I didn't get when I was renting the movies.
8:41
And yes, of course teenage Steve was like, "Sure, b- boobs are great.
8:45
I guess that'll kind of s- that'll smooth over my issues with not getting the big troll monster in that Boris poster advertised on the first Deathstalker." But, uh, yeah, I just wanted to like...
8:58
Like with kinda all of my movies is I wanna try to just deliver on the fantasy that was in my head as a kid walking through the video store.
9:05
Like what did I think I was gonna get when I picked up this movie? And, and just trying to like make a representation of that.
9:13
And that's 100% what my Deathstalker is.

22 MINS LATER

CoreyHOST
31:10
Yeah, yeah [laughs] yeah
66:10
[laughs]
66:10
... one of which is committing to the cult angle, and he's overcomplicating a very simple story.
66:15
Like, in the game, th- essentially the plot is just you get a letter from your dead wife who died of a terminal illness three years prior telling you to come back to Silent Hill, a town that you had vacationed at, uh, you know, when she was still alive and you were together.
66:31
It was a very, like, kind of simple setup, a lot of, like, ambiguous elements that were very effective.
66:37
It's a very effective horror story, and I'd argue Silent Hill 2, the game, is one of the best bits of horror media out there.
66:45
So for me, this movie being such a swing and a miss-... is just a really interesting thing to dissect and watch.
66:52
I'm not saying that I, like, enjoy it and think that it, like, you're gonna have a good time watching it.

31 MINS LATER

97:53
[laughs]
