Right.

Well, so when a president establishes a national monument, like...

President Biden did for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante, the preservation of the monument objects, is what we call them, that are listed in the proclamations, that is the priority for the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service.

Normally, these are multiple-use lands, but what the president says is these are special places that deserve heightened management and the preservation of those objects.

Again, the unique plant and animals, the unique geology, the fossils, cultural sites, that is the priority for the Bureau of Land Management.

And the management plans that you saw finalized in the Bind Administration, Four Grand Staircase and Bears Ears, were intended to accomplish that goal.

Now, that doesn't mean, though, contrary to what Speaker Schultz would have you believe, that does not mean that you're not allowed to go into these monuments.

Maybe talk about that piece of it a little bit.

Um, could you just, like, for the folks who need a refresher or really haven't been following this issue, can you put this week's rollbacks in context of how we ended up here?

Sure.

Go start with Grand Staircase, 'cause that's the older of the two monuments.

So nineteen ninety-six, President Bill Clinton establishes Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

It's about one point seven million acres.

It's the first national monument entrusted to the Bureau of Land Management.

It's southwestern Utah, remarkable canyon country, mesas, canyons, uh, spires, tremendous paleontological, uh, resources, as well as a cultural landscape.
