Right

... uh, as you know.

And, uh, so I started as a paperboy for the Miami Herald.

I lived down in Florida here in Vero Beach, and my best friend David Thompson and I were delivering papers at 5:00 AM and, uh- You know, today, uh, we don't have paper boys or paper girls because the parents, uh, would be arrested for, uh, child neglect for letting their kid go out at [chuckles] before dawn by themselves on a bicycle, but that's how it was back in 1970.

And the guy in charge of the bureau, Miami Herald Bureau, was a guy by the name of Phil Long, and he was a volunteer firefighter for the Vero Beach, uh, Volunteer Fire Department.

And we were so impressed when he would come in with his white coveralls, and he offered to take us down to the fire station and, and, uh, we were introduced to a gentlemanly fire captain by the name of Orwell Brice, Captain Brice.

And Captain Brice and the guys at the main station downtown Vero Beach took us into their fold.
