What qualities meant that you were able to hold down that role for so long? And is the, uh, that sort of leadership role as important now?

Okay.

I was vice captain made by Bill Nicholson.

I was eventually captain under Terry Neill when Martin Peters left.

He very soon left, and then Keith Burkinshaw kept me on as captain.

And then Peter Shreeve at the end of Keith, for a year, one season, he kept me on as captain as well.

I have a lot of thoughts about captaincy, leadership, and I don't think it's treated serious enough these days.

Steve, we've sort of discussed this a bit in the past, but I wonder if you were now, let's say, 21, 22, just approaching your playing prime, what position would you play?
