So what do investment bankers actually do?

That is a good question, Nick.

I guess when I think about what an investment banker does, it can be a little bit hard to describe what the day-to-day looks like because it can be so different.

I guess if you think about just the function of an investment bank, it essentially exists to provide advisory services and capital raising services to large organisations and So what that means is if, for example, a large company, let's say, you know, Coles wants to go out and buy another company, then they will often appoint an advisor in the form of an investment bank to support them with that.

Then there's often kind of a fair bit of work around that in terms of what that consists of.

And I think about those being three parts.

One is the underlying kind of advisory work, i.e., you know, people who kind of work day-to-day in transactions, helping like a large company think about, you know, what sorts of companies they might want to buy, how they might want to do that, and kind of how they should think about, you know, both valuing the company as well as kind of going through the underlying execution of that transaction.

Is that how it works?
