Stephen, presumably these networks can't exist in isolation, so how has international drug trafficking taken a hold in Europe, and where are there particular flashpoints?
5:24
I suppose in Europe we could be said to be comfortable and sort of look askance at, at countries like those in, uh, Central and, uh, Latin America.
5:34
But actually, Europe is a huge problem in itself, and the Netherlands and Belgium in particular have been identified as countries where there is a threat of becoming a narco-state.
5:44
A judge in Antwerp has recently said Belgium is in danger of becoming a narco-state, and that's because huge flows of cocaine in particular come through ports of Antwerp, Bruges, and also Rotterdam.
5:58
And that section of motorway between Antwerp and, uh, Rotterdam has been identified as the cocaine superhighway.
6:05
So there's tens of millions worth of cocaine coming through those ports on a weekly basis.
6:11
And the Port of Antwerp, it, it's been said, has been controlled by the, uh, Albanian mafia. And the head of customs in Belgium has given indications of how this is corrupting Belgian society.
