Can you just talk about that dread, that sort of preemptive nostalgia that you felt growing up?

Sure.

First of all, I'll say there is a, actually, I learned in the course of writing this book that there is a term to describe it, a neologism coined by Glenn Albrecht, who's an environmental philosopher.

I guess that's a thing you can be in Australia.

And he was writing about mining in New South Wales.

The word is solastalgia.

And it's homesickness for a place that you haven't left.

So what did you learn that surprised you as you wrote this book and as you took the journey here for 20 years on this project?
