No, you're absolutely right, and I think this is such a challenge for families in general, just to feel like it is their job to know yes or no, they're dehydrated or that pressure.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Like for example, or if we're talking about difficulty breathing, um, if you have nasal congestion, you have difficulty breathing.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Or if your baby has nasal congestion, they definitely, they have difficulty breathing.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Um, so what does that mean versus what I mean when I say difficulty breathing, which is that they are in distress, that they, uh, if we're talking about breathing, a baby or a child who Really all of their energy is focused on breathing.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Um, they can't speak in a full sentence or they're not playing because really that effort, like I said, is going to breathing.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
The, the growth chart itself as a tool is actually very much limited by the in- inflexibility of it, um, to reflect what, uh, different growth patterns kids can have.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Um, they act-- The way that it was constructed was actually taking various static time points, so your child at her 10th birthday and my child at- ... three years old and, and kind of plotting all of those numbers and coming up with a range that might be normal at that particular age, but not necessarily where your daughter was at two years and three years and four years and how she grew.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
So it really lacks that, the differences in velocity of growth that you can see.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Um, so, uh, it is very much limited when you're, when you're tr- So, so your situation of seeing she's taking her own path, I think is actually very common and, and it's an, um, a mistake that people can make when they're looking at a growth chart sometimes if they're not really keying into the whole picture.

And so what kind of tips do you have for parents who already know that they have a child who's dreading getting a vaccine?

Stephanie GriceGUEST
Sick visits sometimes are easier, but there's been a lot of strep testing lately as well this past six seasons.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
So, um, my advice is to take your advice that you gave when it came to, uh, the pacifier.

Stephanie GriceGUEST
If you go back to that episode, I've actually kind of this clicked for me the other day.
