This is Sonal Kumar, a fourth year medical student at Ross University, and I'll be reading my essay entitled Seeing Medicine, Learning to Read Between the Shadows, which was published in the Teaching and Learning Moments column in Academic Medicine.

He came in for back pain, nothing unusual.

A man in his 60s, polite and quiet.

His primary care physician had ordered an x-ray, which had shown nothing remarkable.

As the pain worsened, we added a CT scan, then an MRI.

Each new image revealed more uncertainty.
