What was it like when the project came to you?
7:45
It was really easy for me, actually, because, one, I was a fan of Bake Some and, like Joyce's work already, and, you know, I'll never sign on to a project if I don't actually like the food that the person makes, either theoretically or in real life.
7:59
[laughs] You know, I, I think I found a weird sort of niche where I talk primarily to chefs of color and people of color who are writing cookbooks and wanna do their projects.
8:12
I've worked on, you know, a Vietnamese American cookbook.
8:15
I've worked on Joyce's.
8:16
I'm currently working on a Filipino cookbook.
8:18
I've also helped out with some cookbooks by Black American chefs who are doing, like, really exciting work in the South.

And, you know,
24:12
paint the red by cooking and waiting tables for a long time.
24:17
This was in like the 2000s to 2010s.
24:21
And I, yeah, that's how I sustained myself, right? It's like just not thinking about writing as my career necessarily.
24:29
And it was just like the thing I did because I cared about whatever I was writing about.
24:34
And honestly, it wasn't a financially sustainable thing for a very, very long time.
24:41
I did a podcast as well.
