242: Central Utah Water Conservancy District - Water Development Project

So, you know, maybe, Sean, you could tell us a little bit about what that project is and what that plant does and how it kind of fits into the broader picture.

As a water provider, water quality is always our top priority as we manage projects, construction projects and so forth.
S
33:11Shaun HiltonGUEST
That's one of the questions we always ask on different aspects of the design and construction itself is how does it affect water quality and how can we ensure that we are delivering the best water possible? And so as As different wells came online over time, we came to recognize that the well water, which has some natural occurring manganese in it, would react with the chlorine that we would put into the water and would cause some slight discoloration in the water.

And so we dove into how we could mitigate that, and that's more or less where the idea of this groundwater polishing plant came to be.

So seven of the 11 wells go to the groundwater polishing plant, and that polishing plant is a pressure vessel filtration facility that has manganese dioxide as the media And it absorbs the manganese out of the well water as it goes through the filters and gets the water to a really, really high quality to ensure that there's no discoloration of any kind as we deliver that water to our customers.

Well, then maybe as our concluding thoughts, since Mike kind of got to bring up and highlight the accolades for your Well 16, Sean, what are you kind of most excited about here in the next like six months to a year for this project, having been, you know, so intimately familiar with kind of the operations and on the ground stuff, you know, what's the, you know, what are you excited to see come together or, you know, come to fruition and just kind of get you, you know, motivated about your job and kind of what you do?

yeah it's fun to be a part of something that affects the the society the group that that you're a part of the society that you live in uh we have a really big impact on that none of the water that we deliver we use ourselves we we deliver that to the people of utah and uh Without it, Utah wouldn't be able to grow the way that it has grown historically.
