Like, it can be fun, I just don't think you're necessarily that excited.

The Open's like the anniversary honeymoon of all this stuff.

You were right again.

But w- when Scottie has raised the bar on himself where we expect him to win majors every year, and w- where's his game at, and is this a course that works for him?

So two answers to that, Big Cat.

One is, am I worried about Scottie? I'd say a little bit.

I think it's very easy to get to a US Open venue like this that's tough and test every part of your game, and I think it's easy to go, "Well, that plays into Scottie's hands." Scottie hasn't had that complete game this year.

A couple of weeks ago on our scorecard show, I, I compared him to Jordan Spieth and got a lot of pushback on that.

The comparison was Jordan Spieth this season has had a lot of weeks where he's driven it well and the iron play has been w- been great, but the putter was off.

And the next week, the putter's there and the iron play is there, but he drives it terrible.

[laughs] Yeah.

Yeah, so for the US Open, obviously the, the whole open part of the name, um, in theory anybody could get in.

You know, I think you have to have a, a, basically a zero handicap or better to apply to get into a qualifier.

They call them local qualifiers.

Um, they have them everywhere.

So they've got them in Chicago, and I think if you go out, they might have one in Alaska.

I mean, they've got them all over the place.

Yes.

And, y- you know, he's still playing, so I reserve the right to change this over time ifuh if he does go on to you know win an open championship or win another masters or whatever it is but i think part of it for me shane is you get guys like him and he was in that he wasn't quite the rory i mean tiger's in a class of his own in terms of what the hype was at 19 20 21 uh rory was right behind him like maybe a tier two guy in terms of what the hype was uh but adam scott was was pretty close i mean he wins the players at such a young age and you're like man this guy's built to be a great major player for a long time and he played in like a hundred majors or he has played in a hundred majors in a row or whatever it is and he's only got one and you're like how is that the case you i mean 2012 obviously at the open with ernie ells winning um you know several masters that he was in i remember i used to go with my with my parents or with friends when my grandfather had badges and it was like adam scott was in i mean uh 2011 the crazy one that we've talked about like he was in that one and there were several in that range and finally he gets one in 2013 but you know him for me him and justin rose are the guys that you and i i think have texted about this but it's like so many one major guys like hunter mayhan just all these guys and adam scott and rose for me really stand out uh like kind of beyond all those guys and i think it's a longevity again it's the sergio westwood thing of been great for so long and to only have one major i think is a bummer

I mean, 33 pro wins.

I think, and I don't know which one of these stand out to you.

I'm probably, I'm assuming 2016 Masters probably close to the top of your list.

But I think that 2012 Open is maybe the most bummed out I ever was watching a golf tournament conclude.

I think a lot of people have Tom Watson high with Stuart Sink there at Turnberry.

But I mean, bogey in his final four holes, you know, he's cruising to win an Open Championship and just can't get it.

Again, I understand trying to grasp to this small piece of history that is unique to your sport, the jumping in the water thing.

While it might have been strange and the players didn't love it, it was something people remembered about the major championship.

Um, any, any other, uh, spare Chevron thoughts before we move on to the next, uh, next event, event on the calendar?

Is there so- who's the golf nerd that has like the forward-thinking analytics brain that could do for the United States what Luke Donald's done?

Yeah, I mean, the Europeans have Eduardo Molinari, who's probably a name you occasionally hear of, but I mean, a former professional golfer that has kind of become the stats guru for the European side.

I'm not sure right now who that is on the American side.

I think Paul Azinger was that to the previous generation, and I think the fact that they didn't keep bringing Paul back was a bit of a miss in terms of what the PGA of America could have done on the American side.

You know, Azinger leaned heavily into people away from the game to kind of guide him in terms of coaching.

Um, but I'm not sure who that player is right now on, on the American side.

I think we've kind of stuck players in the position, obviously going with Keegan last time.

Maybe state a case on why they could potentially win it.

so I would say the, the thing it's probably known for, and it was highlighted in 2019, is internal out of bounds.

Um, we don't get a lot of that in the States.

The course I grew up on, uh, in East Texas had internal out of bounds and we just didn't, like, abide by it, we just hit the ball over the clubhouse, didn't care.

But, um, it's kind of necessary around this golf course, especially at the first hole.

If you go back to 2019, you know, this was like the height of "Can Rory win a major," right? 2019, going to Northern Ireland, he shot 61 on this golf course when he was 16 years old.

So how much of a, a factor is gonna be the, the roulette wheel of the weather? I- can we rely on anything with the weather a- at this tournament? Like is it always bad in the mornings? Does it get worse in the afternoons?

Is it, is it there in between the ears for Rory this week?

You know what? It feels like it is.

Uh, uh, you know, Rory, when he was winning major championships, he was kind of the, the badass, if you will, that walked around the golf course.

And, uh, I think Rory is such a normal person that as he's gotten a little bit older, he's lost a little bit of that.

And it seems like it's back this year.

I mean, just the way, uh, even at The Players.

You know, he kinda loses the lead late, um, steps up in that playoff and hits, like, a 335-yard drive right down the middle.

What do you think about that?
