um and then comes the PSL uh sort of like breakthrough and then everything starts growing walk us through that period like how old were you what was happening

so when I play under 19 after that straight away I get selected for Pakistan A so we had a first tour England and then after that we we went to Zimbabwe play there so we was coming down so Suhaib Maqsood who was playing for Peshawar Zalmi and he liked me a lot so he says I talked to Peshawar owners so they will pick you in emerging category so we was coming back from Zimbabwe to Dubai and I didn't know about that wi-fi can be used in in the flights as well that time so they was checking everything and when we landed Peshawar didn't pick me anything So I get a supplementary pick for Islamabad United.

And one of the guys who played for Islamabad last year, so I asked him, what is supplementary pick? I will play, because in under-19, it's like a reserve.

So I thought I'm in a reserve player.

So I asked him, he said, no, no, they play as well.

So when we have a camp in Islamabad, so before leaving Islamabad, one day or two days couple of days so I called my manager that I'm going to Dubai or not because that time PSL was Dubai he said no no you're going so I said I'm a supplementary player so supplementary player reserve don't travel so no he said no no you're traveling so first game I didn't play when I go to PSL the second game when I played I didn't do well so third game i was drop and then we was playing in Sharjah so me and Sayeed Ajmal was playing that time so we was bowling and he was telling me you have to go like this on this page and i said i'm not playing he said no no why you know you're not playing i say he then he said to me either you play or me play let me talk to the coach and captain captain was miss that time and dean jones was a coach then after that they came to me and i think that game was changing changing my career because i didn't took a wicket but i was like i was get a confidence on that level like okay i belongs to here i belongs to here

Did you feel nervous because people around you, the team, talking about India-Pakistan?

India-Pakistan, plus the outside noise was so big.

What can you tell us about, uh, Qalandars, uh, who a- as we speak are playing that opening game against Perth Scorchers?

I think they have a very good young talent.

They bring it here.

I think, uh, the best lot of our young cricketers coming through, I think they are here.

So definitely is exciting to see them because some of the player, they play at PSL, but some are just coming from the domestic setup.

So definitely they have a very good young talent and they have a, like, a couple of overseas guys which we play against them, so in PSL as well.

So I think they have very good balanced side, uh, but, uh, how they manage it from like first five year of PSL to now, so I think is remarkable.

I must ask you as well, Shadab, how important do you think this tournament is for the UAE players, Mateeullah Khan, Sanjay Bahal, Victor Aravind? Uh, how important is it for them and how important can they be for the Vipers in this tournament, do you think?

What are his skills as a coach a- and why have you and he worked so well together in the past?

I think we started from when I was came in, uh, uh, Pakistan international team.

So he was our bowling coach, so from that on we still worked together for three to four years of my initial career.

And then when he came as a head coach.

So I think- When he was a bowling coach, he was phenomenal as well.

Then we have a very good relationship.

Then he came as our head coach as well.

Why is it, Shadab, that spin is so important in the middle overs of 2020s, especially in places like Pakistan and the Caribbean where the pitches can be on the slow side and offer a little bit of turn? Why is spin so important in those middle overs?
