9:30
So what's happening, and why are we not hearing as much about it?
9:34
It's because it is a quieter approach, like you, like you mentioned.
9:38
Minneapolis was very important for the Trump administration because I think they learned that the approach, this aggressive made-for-TV approach, didn't work.
9:50
It led to deaths.
9:51
It le- it led to a lot of pushback from the community.
9:55
It also led to a few Republicans breaking ranks in that moment.
9:59
So they have decided to do these, these partnerships or, or focus more on partnerships with local law enforcement agencies.

15:23
Can you talk a little bit about that with regard to TPS and other facets that are tying into just how big the population the administration is now going after has gotten?
44:22
Have they given any indication about what comes next?
44:26
Not really.
44:27
And that is not necessarily unusual.
44:29
In these cases, HSI, the Homeland Security Investigations, is usually the one that's been taking over these types of shootings and the investigations of these shootings.
44:41
They have not provided a lot of information yet.
44:44
And again, there's a lot of outstanding questions, Angela.
44:47
For example, we want to know whether the agent who shot at Garcés Pérez had a body cam, right? This was a big deal for federal immigration agents, especially after the deadly shootings of Rene Gould and Alex Pettit in Minneapolis.
46:34
How many shootings have we had? And can you kind of put this in context?
2:46
What has the reaction been from officials here at home in Austin?
2:51
It's been a mix of people being angry and frustrated and disappointed that this is happening.
3:00
You know, Miles, a lot of local... officials have said they were trying to prevent this from happening.
3:06
We have seen this happen in other cities, right? Minneapolis, Chicago, even in Houston in July, ICE agents shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo after conducting a traffic stop.
3:18
And in that case, Mr. Salgado Araujo was not even the subject of the warrant ICE agents were trying to execute.
3:25
So Local officials say they have been trying to prevent that from happening in Austin.
3:30
The thing is that we live in Texas, right, where the state government collaborates closely with federal immigration agents.
4:23
Can you help us put this incident into context of how U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been operating across the country? You mentioned a few things, but just like put this in context for us.
5:18
So can you walk us through a little bit of that timeline? What did DHS decide on Tuesday and what did the president do on Wednesday?
5:27
Yeah, so the deaths of these two men, of Mr. Salgado Araujo in Houston and Mr. Durán Guerrero in Maine, they both stemmed from traffic stops.
5:38
And so on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security said that it was going to pause for now conducting traffic stops.
5:49
And White House, White House border guard Tom Holman said that, you know, he was hoping that that post was going to make the agency review the protocols and policies when conducting traffic stops and also ensure that the federal agents had what they needed to feel safe.
6:07
That was what border guard Holman said.
6:11
Now, after that policy was announced the next day, so yesterday, President Trump on Truth Social said, no way.
6:19
He said that he believed that traffic stops were an effective tool to get undocumented immigrants.
9:55
So what happened to that promise?
19:19
What have you been able to independently verify, and, and what remains just the government's assertion?
19:26
Yeah, I mean, we have definitely been able to see some of these footage, again, coming from either business cameras or home cameras, that show, in the case of Salgado Araujo, that, um, the white van he was driving was being followed by some unmarked vehicles that are, uh, were driven by, uh, federal immigration agents.
19:49
And in that particular case, we do see the, the van get into a median at one point or off the main road.
20:00
Um, but again, the video is not painting a complete picture yet.
20:05
So this question of whether the van was wea- weaponized against the agents, it's hard to answer based on the videos that we have, but I do think it's important to note certain things that make it hard to, I guess, accept that theory at this point.
20:22
One of them is that, um, witnesses have told, uh, um...
20:28
By witnesses, I mean there were three other men in that van.

Mm.
