Can you explain what celiac disease actually is and maybe reference to what it is and or it sometimes gets confused?
10:33
Yeah, so celiac disease is an autoimmune condition that causes damage to the small intestine and then leads to malabsorption of different nutrients and that can cause body wide symptoms.
10:44
And so basically, if you are not yet diagnosed and you do have celiac disease, you consume gluten, the body reacts to that like a foreign invader.
10:55
And so gluten is a protein.
10:58
It's found in glutenin and gliadin.
11:00
And when that comes into the body, the body is like, okay, this is bad.
11:04
I want to attack this protein.

34:13
What would you say maybe is the link between these conditions and why, you know, both can occur rather than it just being celiac disease on its own?
12:15
What is my risk of kissing someone who has just had gluten?
12:20
Yeah.
12:20
Such a good one, and I'm so happy that this study was done because this is a very, very common question.
12:25
I think even before this we would say, okay, kissing is a really low risk of gluten exposure, but now we have more science to tell us that, yeah, this is probably a very correct assumption.
12:33
And so this study looked at couples.
12:37
So there was a small amount of couples.
12:38
The, the c- the study itself was very well designed and highly controlled, so it really gave us, like, some really good answers.
17:27
Okay
