So why did you come up with this framework, and walk us through it practically, very practically for what it means.
16:23
Okay.
16:23
Just zooming out big picture, again, this is kind of the sociological take.
16:27
So for decades now, the International Social Survey has asked, uh, people around the world, but in Canada and the United States, uh, the question, you know, "How strongly do you agree or disagree a jo- with the statement, 'A job is just a way of earning money, no more?'" So, and so I've been looking at that, and it's, you know, it's a little clunky in the wording, but it is what it is.
16:54
Um, but, uh, I've noticed an increasing trend towards more people agreeing and strongly agreeing that a job, a job is just a way of earning money, no more.
17:08
So I fielded one of...
17:09
I fielded that in one of my surveys in Canada, and then I asked an open-ended follow-up question.

7 MINS LATER

If you were to pull out a couple of the most shocking or surprising moments or stories that really stuck with you, Scott?
23:06
I thought, are you kidding? I want to know all about bus driving.
23:10
That's been one of the most, honestly, inspirational aspects.
23:13
And I get that all the time that, oh, this couldn't possibly be the case for, you know, people will use the phrase lower status or blue collar.
23:21
And it's in the book, I kind of said it's an elitist fiction.
23:24
Sure, some jobs are true drudgery.
23:28
A lot of white-collar jobs can have that element too.
23:32
Often what I would do in the data is I would hide all of the demographics and the job title and just look at the richness of their quotes about meaning or, you know, the rippling effect.
25:02
I'm sleeping in and six months later has a nervous breakdown.
