I have to admit, maybe, maybe I gotta read the book a l- a few more times, but maybe for the layperson or somebody who's trying to make the journey on understanding the time element of Bitcoin, what did you mean by the, these, these material cubes and the chronometric cubes?
27:09
Yeah, I was trying to think of a way for, like, a conceptual framework to discuss the, the imposition of the modern conception of time.
27:18
And it's not so simple in, in my id- in my mind, it's not so simple as just to say like, "Yeah, we, we started using clocks, and now we all think and act this way, in a clockwork way." So I call it the Saturn OS, and it's, it's because the, the lineage of thinking about time in the Western world goes back to the Greek mythologies about Saturn.
27:44
And Saturn is the outermost visible planet and became associated myth- in myth with boundaries and timekeeping.
27:53
And, um, I sort of talk about this evolution of the, the concept of Saturn itself evolved as European culture did, and by the time the continent was largely Christian or Catholic, uh, the pantheon of Roman gods and Greek gods was no longer appropriate.
28:16
And the idea sort of transformed into Father Time and ultimately this notion of the watchmaker god, which, uh, was an, was a contemporary idea of, like, Descartes and, uh, Enlightenment thinkers.
28:29
And, you know, the Enlightenment was really, um, a movement to make sense of the, the world and the universe around us in a very rational way.

43:01
What's your take on AI time, and then does Bitcoin's 10-minute, uh, block duration provide us that sort of like countervailing force?
6:15
So, so what's the, what's the main premise of the book and what, like what's, uh, what is it about, and what's the message you want to give to people?
6:22
Uh, yeah, you know, and Gigi's Bitcoin is Time piece, to go back to my earlier story, as I was reading things about Bitcoin, uh, Bitcoin is Time was the first thing that I really read that expanded my awareness of the Bitcoin conversation beyond monetary use case, and it was just so cool.
6:42
Like, I, uh...
6:44
Because I think why that was sort of, uh, an important moment for me was it really, um, changed my perception of around what Bitcoin is and, uh, starting to see how people are thinking about it and talking about it.
7:04
It, you know, it moved it from, for me, it moved my own personal Overton window from, uh, you know, this digital magic money thing to a much larger idea.
7:16
And, uh, so the time thing has always fascinated me since.
7:20
And Dao Bitcoin is actually also, uh, a lot about time.

36:16
And, and this could, yeah, this sort of maps onto that.
54:38
Then what about sort of how time affects beauty and sort of civilizational memory and the cathedral?
54:48
Yeah, yeah.
54:49
You know, I love ancient buildings.
54:51
I love, like, you know, looking at, like, yeah, the history of beautiful buildings and cathedrals across Europe, you know, the state capitol buildings across the U.S., We were thinking about buildings a lot differently and the transition of time, of how we think about time and how we think about money, I think can be observed in buildings as a breadcrumb.
55:25
The buildings, they stay on as a window into how a civilization is conceptualizing time.
55:34
And this is where I think like Bitcoiners, you know, do love talking about time preference and, and building beautiful buildings is, you know, one, it's a great act of like low time preference.
55:47
Um, But we do just think about buildings differently today.

41 MINS LATER

96:44
But I want to ask you then, how does AI then jump in here?
18:32
to crumble as well.
18:33
Yeah, maybe.
18:34
And I'll try to take this in two ways because I think there's sort of two questions there.
18:39
The first one is, can people who are involved in this stop at a certain point and still be fine? And the answer to that is totally yes.
18:46
There are lots of people who, in Bitcoin, they call it number go up technology.
18:50
And it's sort of like the base understanding that Bitcoin is something you can own that has basically been engineered to increase in price forever.
19:03
And it does that because there is a finite number of them.

15 MINS LATER

34:34
And what does it have to do with the idea that there is a fixed amount of this out there in the world?
