Scott Barger

Pennsylvania State Representative

Oct 6, 2026

5:54
Give us an assessment of what you're seeing on the ground in Pennsylvania.
5:59
Well, I think that there is a, it's like there's two different races happening at the same time.
6:08
One, if you're out and about and you're talking to people, normal pennsylvanians you know there is some disappointment and frustration with governor shapiro and rightfully so right he's not like he's he's been hitting it out of the park or anything um there is some you know some some concern with the way things are going there is some you know People who know Garrity like her, love her.
6:37
A lot of people don't know her, but they're getting to know her.
6:41
And that feels like a we're down but it's close kind of race, right? And then you watched the political pundits on social media.
6:53
And they talk about it like it's over, like it's going to be an 80-point blowout.
6:58
And I just don't see how that is true.

22 MINS LATER

29:04
Just just here to help you, Bernie.
5:06
What else is on the docket?
5:08
Well, we have a bill that would mandate fingerprinting for horse groomers who work with racehorses.
5:14
That's coming up.
5:16
There's a state mushroom, official state mushroom.
5:19
And listen, we laugh about it.
5:21
And I understand.
5:22
I get it that this stuff is very important to some segments of Pennsylvania.
7:48
What's at risk if that just simply expires and the state police starts to gather these machines?
17:36
I love those videos because they're, if you look at Shapiro's videos, I mean, everything is like, Oh
17:41
yeah.
17:42
It's not really produced.
17:44
Yeah.
17:44
That's not, listen, I had the privilege of marching in a parade with our treasurer, Stacy Garrity.
17:52
And it was the, the parade organizers were pulling their hair out because she insisted that on meeting every single person in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania.
18:05
And it didn't matter how many miles of parade floats were backed up behind her.

11 MINS LATER

29:01
Barger, what are we doing here in the House of Representatives about
5:55
Scott, what the hell's going on here?
5:59
That's the million-dollar question, isn't it? The...
6:03
It seems as though on the one hand, Republicans, conservatives across the Commonwealth are concerned about the direction our country is going.
6:12
But on the other hand, they can't be bothered to get up off their couches and vote when it's time to get to work.
6:20
This is a recurring theme, I think.
6:24
It's I think why Trump did so well is he was able to connect the people who may stay home that day.
6:30
Maybe they go.

35 MINS LATER

41:49
So yeah, I think that should be a part of a platform and it should be talked about.
15:44
Why would they, Scott Barger, why would somebody like that be released? What is the thinking here, Scott?
15:49
Well, the Supreme Court ruled that the way that the law is sentencing these folks now is unconstitutional.
15:56
And they have the power to make that call, and they did.
16:00
So that tasked the legislature for coming up with a new way of sentencing people that is constitutional.
16:06
And we had something, I thought, in place it came out of the republicans in the senate that had enough bipartisan support it got at the issue okay here are here is our constitutional set of sentencing guidelines that that overcome these criticism from the supreme court and it would have been a done deal all we had to do was vote on and it was over uh they sat on the bill for i don't what dallas a month before they called the vote at the very last minute.
16:34
Then they added these amendments to it for a highly controversial medical release program that would allow people with dementia who have life in prison to get out of prison, for example.
16:47
That's very controversial and they smashed those two ideas together, which made the bill unpassable for Republicans and we had to vote no.

15 MINS LATER

31:46
Now they got to give money to Amy Klobuchar instead of Sherrod or instead of Shapiro, if that makes sense.
6:00
What the hell's going on? Why? Why are you guys forty seven out of fifty, Scott?
6:05
Well, because our policies aren't pro-business.
6:09
You know, to have a growing economy, you have to have opportunity.
6:12
You have to have business opportunity for investment.
6:15
You have to have opportunity for people to work, to get a job that they can support their family.
6:20
We're just, we're lagging behind.
6:22
We're really not even close to fulfilling our potential, I don't think, here in Pennsylvania.

30 MINS LATER

36:57
John,
25:54
Scott, do you want to weigh in?
25:58
Yeah, the treasurer's right.
26:01
We have to be careful.
26:02
Look, when people bring this up back home, I point out to them, first of all, remember, this is why we shouldn't legislate from the bench, right? We shouldn't let judges pass laws.
26:12
This is kind of why we're in this mess is because a judge made a ruling and we never really figured out how to do it.
26:19
So these operators have been in gray area for some time.
26:23
But they're doing things in our community that haven't been done before.

12 MINS LATER

38:56
When you have a conversation with these people that don't do anything, what do they say to you?
10:31
That's what you've been in for a year and a half.
10:32
I walk in, I'm like, what the hell is going on here? This is so strange.
10:36
But one of the things I've learned in that first year and a half is that when it comes to Democrats, at least in Pennsylvania, and I'm going to assume nationwide, is that really every decision they make is about winning, right? So this decision, they may say it's because of a lack of diversity in Iowa, whatever.
10:55
They'll say whatever it takes to make the medicine go down easier, but really they did it to win.
11:00
So that's, that's what they're doing.
11:02
You know, they, they, they talk a good game about grassroots and whatever.
11:05
Really they're about winning the white house.

16 MINS LATER

26:53
Scotty, your buddy, what do you think?
