Episode 50, guest Scott B. Smith, Esq., "What It Takes to Scale a PI Law Firm"
2:08

Josh KonigsbergHOST
Let's, if you could take us through your journey from being recruited to play football at the Air Force Academy to eventually attending Florida State and earning your law degree, what did that path teach you about discipline, leadership, and resilience?

Well, you're already jarring my memory because unfortunately, uh, me being recruited to the Air Force Academy to play football was quite some time ago.

Um, well, uh, as far as that experience ultimately, uh, forming the trial lawyer I am today, like, I'll just tell you, anybody that's been to any one of the service academies knows what it's like to be a cadet, especially during that first year or that plebe year where discipline and structure is at the core of the regimen or what the service academies are trying to instill in their future officers.

I hurt my lower back pretty bad, so I wasn't able to graduate from the academy, um, and continue playing football, and I did transfer to Florida State, uh, graduated there with my undergraduate degree, and then went to Florida State Law School.

And, you know, that entire experience, that seven-year segment of my life, um, like any college student or law student, allowed me to mature and grow as a human being and ultimately, uh, become the legal professional that I am today, uh, sharpening my skills, um, you know, down to things like time management, um, just so important in being a trial lawyer in twenty twenty-six where we are all, um, bombarded, not every day, but every minute with emails, text messages, other digital type communications, and just the communications we've been accustomed to for years, you know, regular snail mail, faxes, in-person meetings, out-of-office meetings, you name it.
