Your thoughts about the decision, what Roberts writes, and then Kavanaugh is a swing.
28:21
Yeah, so I think it's important that both sides of the political spectrum are on this case.
28:28
It's a very important case, a very important step for the Federal Reserve, but it doesn't decide everything finally.
28:34
The court simply said that It believes that Cook likely will succeed on the merits, but the courts below are going to have to make a decision about the extent of cause, whether there was cause in this case.
28:51
So this case is going to go back to the Supreme Court, and we'll probably be talking about it again next year.
28:58
I think it is important that the court focused on the Fed independence as part of monetary policy and the history of monetary policy.
29:08
But then it went a little beyond that and said that the Federal Reserve, recognized that the Federal Reserve has broader powers and says, you know, the Federal Reserve is not trapped in amber.
31:44
I mean, what do you guys think? Whether the administration can still fire her with cause if they just have more evidence?
10:12
Is she due the kinds of due process protections that we would expect in any other court case?
10:24
So that'll be one of the questions the court decides in this case.
10:28
I would be surprised if the court found a difference between being a common employee of a government agency and being a head of an agency where the question is exactly the same.
10:41
The question is, can the employee or the principal be removed for cause? It's hard to say that for cause means something different.
10:52
and that the due process rights that go along with that would be different.
10:57
I would expect the court to lean in to Lisa on that one.
13:38
That struck me as a pretty significant leap, the way the administration views monetary policy, that it should be sort of subject to sort of popular vote.
13:49
Yeah, I think that, you know, from the beginning, President Trump and Vice President Vance have both believed that the president should be in control of monetary policy and that that reflects the view of the people because the people elect the president.
16:01
What is your sense of the seriousness of this allegation and how it came into, uh, the decision-making process?
16:11
So I agree with Greg and with Brian Earl both saying earlier that this is part of the president's plan to try to take control of the Federal Reserve and get the interest rate policy that he wants.
16:23
So in that respect, I don't think it's really about Lisa Cook.
16:27
That said, what Lisa Cook is facing is allegations that she has not had the opportunity to respond to, that, um, that she's committed fraud.
16:38
And on that basis, the president is trying to say there is cause to remove her.
16:43
But there's some real legal issues here.
16:45
Uh, we don't know what the facts are and whether there was any fraud involved at all.
19:06
Uh, but is it your sense that, um, this is something where, um, he's correct in saying that simply the facts of her having this documentation are enough, or do you think that is still to be determined?
