Can you explain a little bit more around why we need water in our body?
17:11
Yeah, first of all, if we think about it, we're about 65% water.
17:14
So it's already something really important.
17:17
Then any chemical reaction that happens in biology has to happen through water.
17:22
So it's like a medium.
17:23
So I sometimes say to people, it's like throwing the bathwater out and leaving the baby, that you need both together.
17:32
So it's something that biochemistry doesn't function properly without hydration shells or how water is arranged around it.

think one of the key things which has been fantastic in the last few years, you've mentioned there about social media and there's some great things out there in social media, but there's also a lot of misinformation.
10:03
And, you know, what did some of these experiments in secret look like?
10:07
Well, it started off 'cause when I was very young, I had a job in a nursing home, so I think psychologically I wanted to make sure that I ke- looked after myself so I didn't end up like the residents.
10:18
And I think when you have those kind of jobs when you're young, it does shape you for the future.
10:24
So, um, I think with the experiments, I did things like biochemistry because I was a biochemist then, but then I moved away from that because when it comes to putting chemicals in yourself, I think it's, um, not a good idea at all.
10:39
Uh, and when we're young and silly, it's very tempting 'cause humans are naturally curious creatures.
10:45
So it then went into things like learning movements, I- like Pilates and yoga, and extracting sort of the anti, well, I'll call it longevity from mobility.
10:56
And then I got very interested in cognition, so that's how it led me into functional neurology.

Let's talk about what leptin is and why so many of us become leptin resistant in midlife and later.
