166: It's Not Burnout. It's Fear. Dr Sarah Golding on vet burnout, imposter syndrome and getting your confidence back
S
46:25Sarah GoldingGUEST
Like I've, I've mentored vets that have been out 10 years, so I've got a pretty good grasp on across the board.
S

I think one of the things is we're pretty good at information overloading our clients in that initial meet and greet first consult with the patient, right? And that's because we're traditionally taught to give options.
S
46:46Sarah GoldingGUEST
So to give, "Okay, well, here is what we could do, and this will cost whatever." And, and then we, because we're giving options, then we focus on the money associated with tho- those options, and all of a sudden the client is feeling information overloaded, pressured to make a decision when really you should be the professional leading them to make a informed decision.

Last year I had some heart things, right? So I went to the GP and if he'd said to me, "Oh, well, you know, we could do 48 hours wearing a halter monitor, blah, blah, blah, but it would cost this," or we could do, "Let's try...

How did that start and
S
10:36Sarah GoldingGUEST
when? Well, I guess I've been in for about 10 years and I think it was encouragement from your good self actually that kind of take the sidestep into doing more.
S
10:46Sarah GoldingGUEST
So um from wanting and yearning and still yearning to to have the most fun roles in voice acting that i can possibly find um i kind of went into the interviewee side of things with audio drama production podcast with fiona thrale who i absolutely adore she's like a I then sort of got more and more confidence to play myself.
S
11:15Sarah GoldingGUEST
And so I started to do little bits and pieces here and there and started the Quirky Voices feed.
S
11:22Sarah GoldingGUEST
And yeah, I think it was more about then when I started to do indie AF, a kind of... uh development or uh my own version of of audio drama production podcast a few years later I started to put little sketches on the front and that was my practice uh editing uh sound design uh putting people's voices together and having a play with all that that door might offer so that was my first way just doing a few sort of um one to three minute sketches at the beginning of this interview show to give me a bit more confidence in in making and writing as well so so yeah that's kind of how it uh I kind of got the experience behind me to then play with bigger more exciting things and now I love a dialogue edit now like it's one of my favorite things to do I do dialogue edit for the lovely Oz9 podcast and anything else that I can get my my hands on um just because I feel that that is another form of directing really which is another thing I truly have loved from coming from you know theater and um community theater I've I've directed so many different fun things, including Panto and Terry Pratchett plays and just fun, feisty, character-fueled things.
S
12:41Sarah GoldingGUEST
So yeah, I guess it's just I gave myself confidence with those smaller things to then be able to try bigger, more exciting, longer versions.
S
12:51Sarah GoldingGUEST
And I guess also just experimented with GarageBand for some music, so I started to compose some bits and pieces and have a play.

what about a recording day or recording session for you say you're doing one of your your many thousand roles as a voice actor so how does that look on the day like what what needs to be done what needs to be put in place and then how does it all flow from there
