Conversation with Sandy Brown about stewardship and M&A
10:03

Eric AlexanderHOST
What are some basic leadership stewardship principles for people at the top of the house, executives, as they're thinking about M&A?
S

Leaders have so many constituencies, I assume in every business, but certainly in banking.
S
10:24Sandy BrownGUEST
Legally, that's where you as the CEO, CFO, general counsel, the top C-suite executives, that's where you're looking initially to create value for those people.
S

But ultimately, you have an obligation and you're legally allowed to consider other things like your people below you, your community, and what will benefit those folks as much as your shareholders.

And so I think it's important for leaders to look beyond just how much money am I going to get when we close this transaction.

PC Pilgrims: Writing the Book on Pilgrimage

Ryan ParkerHOST
What is your perspective on the intersections between the rise of pilgrimage popularity, but the overall decline of traditional religious participation?
S
28:50Sandy BrownGUEST
I think part of what we're seeing is that the Western church is still operating with assumptions that come from the old era of christendom for a very long time churches gathered people who already believed in god already identified as christian and already felt some responsibility toward religious participation sunday morning belonged to church life and the church itself sat at the center of the town or neighborhood but for a lot of people today that world is gone Many people grew up with little or no connection to organized religion.

And when religion does appear in public life, it's often through political conflict or through voices that present Christianity in a harsh or fearful way.

So when the average person drives past a church, there often isn't much that invites curiosity or trust.
