Why don't we start with the relationship with self? What are your thoughts? OK, so.

The relationship itself, it's a tricky one, right? Because very often when we mention to people relationship itself, what does that even mean? What is that? So when we talk about relationship, we usually, I find from my experience, is we think about our partner, our children, our parents, our friendships, right? But the most important relationship that we often overlook is the relationship we have with ourself.

And what I mean with that, from my perspective, Jen, is it's always worth asking, how well do I know me? How well do I know myself? And again, the meaning behind that is, do we recognize our own needs? Can we say no without feeling guilty? Can we make a mistake without being terribly hard on ourselves? Because sometimes, something I see quite often is people who are incredibly compassionate towards everybody else, but they are very critical to themselves.

And that's where that resonates for me, right? And it's that understanding when somebody else makes a mistake that...
2:27
When they make one themselves, then they feel they just become, there's guilt or there's that inner critique that comes in.
2:38
And what we do in CI, which is the compassion inquiry, is when that happens to kind of become more aware of that and the teaching of that relationship itself is to become curious about that.
2:53
And one of these questions is very often asked is, where did we learn to be so hard on ourselves? Did we grow up believing we have to be the good girl to be successful and to feel valued, right? Because sometimes we become so focused on being enough for everybody else that we lose touch with who we are and what we need.

Like we're all where we need to be and we need to mind ourselves, don't we?
