Um, and so, uh, with the help of Ozawindib, he, um, documented officially where the river began in 1832.

Sandra LichterGUEST
So we c- we speed forward then to 1888, 1889, and that's when the Minnesota Historical Society decided that they, they wanted to have a final documentation of where exactly the beginning of the river was.

Sandra LichterGUEST
Um, and so they sent a man, his name was Jacob Brower, um, and he had, uh, worked in many different capacities, but he did a lot of surveying.

Sandra LichterGUEST
And he came to the area, and while he was here, um, he surveyed the whole entire area, and he determined where the river actually begins is where the water flows out of the north arm of Lake Itasca.

Sandra LichterGUEST
And Lake Itasca actually has, um, uh, five streams that drain into the lake.
7 MINS LATER

Emmaline ChildsHOST
... being there, uh, what is your hope or your wish for people who come and visit Itasca for the first time?
