Hello, this is Sam Oyer from the University of Virginia.

Today I am pleased to present our recent publication of a study which was entitled Effect of an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Protocol in Postoperative Pain and Opioid Consumption After Rhinoplasty.

This is a study we conducted including my partner Dr. Stephan Park at the University of Virginia and the study was led by Dr. Ben Brownlee who was completing his fellowship with us at the time.

Essentially, enhanced recovery after surgery protocols, also known as ERAS, have been previously developed for multiple different types of surgeries as a way to use evidence-based medicine to actually help reduce the amount of opioid consumption that a patient needs after surgery.

However, we were surprised to find out that this hasn't really been applied much in the setting of rhinoplasty surgery, which is one of our most common surgeries performed as facial plastic surgeons.

So with this study, we implemented an ERAS protocol for our rhinoplasty patients and compared the pain control and opioid use before and after implementing this protocol.
