So can you tell us, what did the protest this week look like?
14:40
Oh, look, it was very big, it was colorful, it was vibrant.
14:43
Uh, we gathered on Tuesday, Tuesday evening at a place called Yagan Square, which is in the city.
14:49
Um, and that's quite, uh, that was quite d-sort of deliberately chosen for its symbolism.
14:53
Uh, Yagan was, uh, an Aboriginal resistance fighter.
14:57
Um, so it, you know, gave us a chance to make the point that, um, you know, Australia was a continent without war for many tens of thousands of years, but that was brutally interrupted with war t- over two hundred and thirty years ago, and that, you know, war, wa-war, Aboriginal people didn't seek out war, it was brought to them.
15:13
Um, so that was quite, quite poignant.

18:26
Um, can you tell us a bit more a- about why specifically for you in WA it's important to resist this kind of militarization?

What have you actually seen put in place in the lead up to day one of Land Forces, which was Tuesday in Boorooloo, Perth?
16:41
It was Tuesday, although I should add that the land forces special powers came into effect on the 1st of October.
16:48
So there was a very generous bump in and bump out period for the conference as well.
16:54
So what have we seen? Well, we've seen the first instance, the legislation itself was passed.
16:58
I don't think it had been passed when we spoke last time.
17:00
So it was passed.
17:02
Not surprisingly, with the support of Labor, Liberal and One Nation.

Can you tell me about how that went?
Pip InmanMODERATOR
29:42
And he can tell you more about the campaigning now.
29:47
Thanks so much, and thanks to the other speakers as well.
29:50
And greetings from Wallyalup, or Fremantle, Wadjuk Noongar country.
29:55
And not far from where I live, this time next year, there will be US nuclear-powered submarines on regular rotation.
30:03
So US and British submarines already visit HMS Stirling, but regular rotation means we become a de facto US submarine base, because the submarines will be serviced.
30:16
and there will be hundreds of US defence personnel operating out of HMS Stirling.
30:23
And that also then brings with it increased nuclear risk, because the nuclear reactors in the submarines, that the low-level waste from those submarines is going to be serviced.
