More about how Our Family Wizard can help in a few minutes, but now on to today's show.
1:55
So if you're a police officer, first responder, you maybe work for the government, whatever it may be.
2:01
Those are hard cases because when they come to you, by the time they've been married for 10 years, 20 years, whatever it may be, they may have put into service 20 or 30 years in their specific field.
2:16
Now, what does that mean? That means that their pension is up for grabs.
2:19
So dealing with that issue with firemen, policemen, whoever else, and knowing that their wife or husband is going to get a certain percentage of their pension when they retire, sometimes they get double pension.
2:34
So that's a difficult thing.
2:36
They all wish they had some sort of prenuptial agreement, that they had some deal and they all say, well, she's not going to take my pension or he's not going to take my pension.
4:35
Exactly.
2:14
If you're a stay-at-home parent, you're thinking about divorce, what is your biggest concern? What are you seeing with people?
2:22
So if you're a stay-at-home parent, you're thinking about getting divorced, a lot of the concerns are, "Where am I gonna go from here? What am I gonna do for money? What am I gonna do, um, for my living situation?" I get questions all the time about, um, where they're gonna go at the next step, but also during the process.
2:42
So one of the things that I find is that a lot of people are concerned with residing in the same home with your ex-spouse, um, whether they need to get a job, um, what they're gonna do for money if they don't have access to a joint account or money on their own.
3:00
Those are common issues.
3:02
So if you do have access to, um, an account and your spouse is cooperative, that's a completely different situation than if your spouse is uncooperative and has locked you out of accounts a- and, and whatnot.
3:17
As far as residing in a home together, that's a very common issue, and I a- get asked that all the time, specifically in Palm Beach County.
3:23
So in Palm Beach County, they require you to go to mediation first.
