Well, no, the last time I got sober.

So I felt a relapse coming on because I've done it enough times.

So I fucking knew when one was coming.

But we had that pandemic coming.

And I said to you briefly before we lost connection the other day.

the pandemic was coming and I'm a hypochondriac which I've dealt with all them fears and anxieties for a long time but when there was this virus that was coming and you were hearing about it and I always used to try and avoid the news but everyone was talking about it weren't they so I had all these fears and feelings that I've put to bed just come rushing back and I hadn't had it it was a scary place to be and um And people say you relapse in your head, don't they, a long time before you pick up the first drink.

What have you learned about getting men to open up through the other things that you've done? I guess you would have got people opening up to you when they jumped in the North Sea with you and stuff.

Uh, are the punters liking one side?

And I really feel like, and same in some regards for Dominion, I feel like that by showing so much in the trailers, it, it, it preempted people to not enjoy the film as much as they obviously, uh, otherwise would have.

I think that, like, some opinions were there was no real surprises, and, like, when it came to any surprises that were left, they're already, they're already-

The first time we see the Giga outside of the Cretaceous scene, or even in the Cretaceous scene, it's sleeping.

Like the first time you see it, it's just sleeping.

Wha- was, was it ever difficult to, uh, have rapport? I'm wondering if they saw you as the man because you were recording them and because you were white.

It, uh, was a, uh, a type of thing that I think most Black people had, uh, some doubt as to what, quote-unquote, "we were up to" early on because in many instances, Black people were taken advantage of, and, uh, maybe when they thought something was for free or for a certain price, it didn't turn out that way.

I knew that the Black people that I was going to record, uh, most of which had never seen even microphones, let alone a, a little studio, that the psychology that would be employed by me to have them feel comfortable and to do the thing that they felt they wanted to do in the way of music rather than to try to please or do the type of thing that a white man might want to do, uh, have them do, because I was not looking for Duke Ellington or Count Basie or Nat King Cole or any of the outstanding Black, uh, jazz and, uh, pop musicians.

The people that I was recording were people that had, to a great extent, the feel for the things they had experienced and they loved, and the way they spoke was to the people through their music.

Why did you stop?

Uh, I saw the handwriting on the wall.

When you would do what you did, had to do, and your distributors had to work with you, and then the major labels would come along and offer contracts that we couldn't even think about, guarantees, uh, because we were still very, very limited on, uh, on funds.

So it was no use in me being a farm club, so to speak, for the major league club, and that's exactly what it came to be.
