Like many people, I started freelancing at a vulnerable time, which was the end of mat leave.

And stepping from employment to free fall while also working out who on earth I was since having a child, was frankly terrifying.

And if I'd believed a lot of what I saw online, I'd have had to try and bluff my way through the whole thing with a brave face on, and I probably wouldn't still have a business.

Instead, I found communities, especially Doing It For The Kids, that were the complete opposite of the hustle moms and marketing bros all over the internet.

There wasn't a brave face needed because from the outset it was clear that, yes, doing it on our own can be bloody tough, and that's okay.

Finding those safe spaces to be a bit vulnerable in changed my mindset completely and made it so much easier to ask for help.
