I think that is the approach most of us take.
8:03
It's a bit like trying to do your own root canal work.
8:06
Some of the work you can do yourself, it's great to get a better awareness of of what triggers you have, and an understanding of one's past, but the ability just to completely clear trauma on one's own without working with someone who's guiding you.
8:23
Because often in my work, it's not what clients tell me, it's also what they omit.
8:29
So, you know, we can have a whole session where they're just talking about their mother, for instance, and I'll say, oh yeah, now tell me about your father.
8:38
And that can be It's omission and commission.
8:42
It's what people tell you and it's also what they leave out.
12:31
Can you tell us more about the Timeline Protocol?

but that can almost come at more of a cost by putting on that front than actually dropping the front.
1:47
Absolutely.
1:48
It's exhausting being positive all of the time when you're feeling fearful, anxious, uh, and not very well.
1:55
It, it's a huge burden to also put up this toxic positivity.
1:59
It, it feels that it's sapping and it adds, it adds to the exhaustion levels.
2:04
But it-- so it's about being-- a level of resilience is about being pragmatic.
2:08
It's about, you know, staying in the present moment protects us from ruminative thinkings about the past or catastrophic thinking about the future.

So what are the, you know, what are there some other very simple steps that, you know, bonk go like that and, and, you know, jog yours- not, I was gonna say jog yourself out of it, and that, that's actually dismissing it and I, I don't mean to so, to do at all, but the, the interruption things, are there other things?

Inspired by the 50-year success of Canada's student refugee program.
4:04
It's a beautiful initiative that allows us to kind of celebrate what happens when we work together, when we really think carefully about what welcome means.
4:14
and how universities and we hope in the future TAFEs and other registered training organisations will also get involved in offering that kind of welcome for talented young people who are displaced by no fault of their own and who are unable to work or study in those contexts because it's illegal for them to do so.
4:32
So the refugee student settlement pathway is a really good news story.

Dr Bakers says it's early days for the pilot program and universities are showing growing interest.
5:06
We've seen a significant increase in the number of universities who are excited to sign up.
5:11
We had eight pioneering universities who took a punt on us last year and accepted some of the 19 students who arrived in January this year to start their studies in semester one.
5:22
I'm sure we'll see something close to a doubling of that number as we move through the next couple of years.
