Jeff HammHOST
Brian, before we dive into Whalen Dentistry and, you know, a little bit of background there, share a little bit about your personal background, where you're from originally and what brought you to the Lake Norman area.
R
1:30Ryan WhalenGUEST
So originally from a town not too far north of here, Bluefield, West Virginia, so just about two hours away.
R
1:38Ryan WhalenGUEST
Grew up there, went to high school there, just did all the normal things as a high school student.
R
1:45Ryan WhalenGUEST
I got recruited to play golf at Virginia Tech and be a member of that team, so yeah.
R
1:55Ryan WhalenGUEST
And during that time, I kind of narrowed it down to what I wanted to look at doing career-wise and decided on dental school over medical school.
R
2:05Ryan WhalenGUEST
Um, went to West Virginia university, um, it'd be an in-state and just made the most, most sense.

Jeff HammHOST
And specifically, what is sort of the experience that new clients or new patients can expect to experience there at your practice?

And, and so there were a lot of members of the community that talked and, and took part about what they wanted to see, and, and we thought we had a project, um, which, you know, is kinda colloquially known as the, the cap and tunnel project in Buffalo, where we were going to basically, uh, cap with green space, uh, you know, about a mile of the Kensington Expressway toward downtown in the part that was sort of subterranean, um, and connect the, the two neighborhoods on the other side of it with the cap and tunnel.
R
7:50Ryan WhalenGUEST
Well, like I said, there was litigation there, but w- the other thing that we found was, you know, there were a lot of people that wanted it, but there were a lot of people that were opposed to it, too.
R
8:00Ryan WhalenGUEST
Um, and it was messaging that we hadn't necessarily heard throughout the project up until that point, um, which is why we reset.
R
8:08Ryan WhalenGUEST
So when Tajay talks about rebranding, we didn't want the people to think it's the same old Kensington Expressway project that they had heard about before.
J

... you know, in the now, you know, close to a year that, that this has been, this has been going on, in these listening sessions and, uh, you know, and, and more?

Who were they? What happened? And, you know, what did you guys discuss about this there on the podcast?
R
28:59Ryan WhalenGUEST
So the whackers are this couple that endured, uh, in theory, over a decade of harassment, and a lot of it is just completely nonsensical.
R
29:16Ryan WhalenGUEST
Um, at one point, they do a stakeout to try to, like, catch the people, which is, you know, a lot of fun.

Micah HanksHOST
When you began looking for additional information about this case, who had claimed that they had communicated with the witnesses, and what ultimately led you to tracking one of them down?
