I know everyone's talking FIFA, but the Vancouver Whitecaps have their own story.
5:54
Yeah, I don't know if anybody's caught on to this in the rest of the country, but we're having a real, if you're a soccer fan in BC and you cheer on the Vancouver Whitecaps and the MLS, there's a risk that this team might go away.
6:06
In fact, this week the bombshell came out that maybe that place it goes to is Las Vegas.
6:11
Here's the story.
6:12
So it's been for sale for a while.
6:14
The current ownership group, which involves a bunch of well-known people, including Steve Nash, the former NBA basketball star.
6:21
He's amongst the group.
7:37
And
1:06
Now, this particular one, because of the notion of the majority government and the recent floor crossings, Being so far removed from it, are people still talking about it?
1:13
Oh, yeah, for sure.
1:14
You're right, though.
1:15
It's so funny because like I've never actually seen a by-election anybody cared about.
1:19
We're like on the real deep politics nerd end of things.
1:24
So it's been fascinating to see how many people care for obvious reason.
1:27
I mean, this is just part of this huge overall story of the Mark Carney liberals transforming themselves from a minority into a majority.
3:12
That might also lean into this too.

one customer and we are now noticing that's not a great idea um and we've seen the the bc government here really try to start pivoting to some other parts of the country or sorry other parts of the world we've seen european trade missions we've seen the the our forest minister just got back from japan and south korea and places like that um I had a chance to talk to him recently about all these trips because this has been definitely a story of the year.
8:56
Softwood lumber for the whole province of B.C. and just the crisis the industry is in because of these tariffs.
9:02
And talking to the forest minister after these international trips he's done throughout the year to try to shore up those other customers, he said something really interesting to me in that we have had trade with these other countries.
9:12
We've done it before, but there have been times where we'll ramp up our trade with them, but then we suddenly disappear and start shipping our stuff to the U.S. because they were just the easier customer.
9:22
And these other markets are a little wary because they are worried about that happening again.
9:28
Like, yeah, we used to get your lumber, but then you took off on us.

16:08
So you can kind of see the tipping point in some towns like that.
11:20
Is that the tiny street one? Because it's in the same spot, right?
11:24
Yeah, it's one of the tiniest streets.
11:26
I don't know if it is the tiniest street, but it's designated as a road.
11:28
It has a street sign and everything, but it's this tiny little alleyway that two people can't walk abreast down parts of it.
11:38
Down there, once upon a time, was a barbershop.
11:41
And you'd walk into this barbershop again, it's adjacent to Chinatown and there'd be two barbers in a little room kind of off this alleyway that hadn't been changed since the sixties.
11:51
Everything was exactly the same in the middle between the two barbers was an Electrolux vacuum cleaner.
16:38
That traffic circle, the guy who cut you off is maybe not such a big deal.
0:59
Ryan, your first thoughts, prime minister's speech.
1:01
Well, I think the thing that everybody's looking at, of course, is the budget coming up in a couple of weeks.
1:06
And I think a lot of folks went into the speech wondering, what's he going to be saying about that? Or at least what is he going to try to prep us for? when it comes to the bad news of of the costs that we're all facing the deficit numbers that are going to be probably bigger than anybody was was expecting come the election time i don't know if we heard a lot about that i think just during the break there when we were off of it he did make a couple of comments potentially uh just sort of saying look there's going to be some tough choices coming so so he might have addressed that a little bit after uh the news break but I was kind of surprised not to hear more that he used this primetime address not to say more.
1:41
But then again, I think he was doing some of the things you might expect.
1:45
He was selling the need to build Canada bigger and I like the baseball analogies.
1:51
He was working all that stuff in about the swing for the fences, but it's the same stuff we've been hearing from him.
1:55
So he continues to sell the need for Canada to do these big, bold things.

projects.
41:36
It is happy Friday.
41:37
Weekends here.
41:38
Spring break week two is coming up.
41:41
I
42:06
What's on your show today?
42:07
Well, we are going to be talking, speaking of the election that is about to happen, one of our local members of Parliament, Alistair McGregor, is going to join us to talk about election prep from his point of view and also take your calls if you've got questions on federal politics and you want to talk to one of the local MPs.
42:22
Your text and your calls, welcome.
42:23
That's going to be in the 3 o'clock hour.
