So quickly, if you don't mind, what are you hearing at the doors around traffic congestion and traffic in general? And how do we get more people moving when, and I say this as nicely as possible, when sometimes we don't have enough space to build more roads to put more cars on it?

Yeah, I mean, the irony is you said quickly tell you, and this is a problem that is not going to be quickly solved in any way, shape or form.

There's lots of answers to this question.

None of the answers move the needle a whole heck of a lot.

And a lot of things need to happen right in order for the needle to move on this issue.

So let me back out and take kind of a big picture view and we can maybe get a little more granular.

View Royal exists as a pinch point in the South Island.

How important is it for you to be willing to have those conversations, even if that means the personal life of Ryan Painter will no longer exist if you are elected?

The one thing I'm curious about, though, is how do you tell any NDP voters who might have heard some of the positions that you've taken and whatnot involved in that role and make them feel like they're welcome, they're included, and you want to hear from them as well? How do you be mayor for both sides of the aisle, given the recent political roles that you've had provincially?

I really appreciate you asking me that question, Adam, because it gives me an opportunity to say that I don't hold any political party memberships at the provincial or federal level.

I think it's extremely important that the mayor is able to listen to everybody at the local level, no matter what political party they're at, without feeling like they're being pulled by political membership or a political message.

So I'd say that first.

Second, I count as friends people like Peter Milibar, Ian Payton, Eleanor Sturco, Carol James, and, of course, John, and folks who range across the political spectrum.

I'm able to talk to everybody, and it's because I listen, and I listen first.

So I would say if there are NDP voters in the Royal who are concerned that perhaps – in talking to me, they might not have an open ear, come talk to me.

How do you specifically do that?

Okay

... literally everyone come in that was still expecting it to have been Venetian plastered, like the client and, like, the builder, couple other people, the architects, everyone thought it'd been done by a Venetian plasterer, and I was like, "No, I've actually just rolled that on and troweled it off." So that's another thing.

I think if you're looking to do something a bit different, my initial reaction was, "Oh, this is just gonna look rubbish," like I don't even wanna attempt it.

But actually after I'd had, uh, done it and followed the instructions and done it all properly, it looks amazing, and I've done it probably twice now since.

Mm.

And then I think you give it two coats, then on the third coat you can put it on really thick.

You can also put it on a trowel, and then you kind of smear it out in different directions, and it's just a lot thicker than normal paint and it just kind of sits there, and then you get the effect of it looking like concrete, and then you can put a really high fine sandpaper and buff it, which then makes it, like, shiny.

And then if you really want, you can, areas you can put like wax on it to make it look really, uh, almost like shiny depending on the finish that you want.
