How do you achieve that?

Well, like you said, the, uh, tabernacle actually is our recording studio.

And so, uh, for the week that we record, uh, it, it has to be a quiet, pristine environment.

And so- Uh, we often close the streets around the tabernacle so that we don't have street noise if we can help it.

Um, and it's, it's a beautiful acoustic.

The tabernacle's been recorded since 1910.

It's got a long recording history.

Ryan Murphy of WHRO, what's your headline of the week?

Um, so our headline is this investigation, uh, we just published on Norfolk's, uh, Housing Authority.

Um, I'm an editor now, but I did for many years cover the city of Norfolk and its housing authority.

Um, and I, I teamed up on this with a, with a freelance reporter named Jim Morrison.

Um, he's done a ton of work.

Uh, he's a great freelancer.

He's freelanced for the, The Washington Post, The Times, uh, but he's local in Norfolk.

Also, he's moved on to Charleston, right? What's their reaction to all this?

[laughs]

I, I act- I actually hated that so much, 'cause I didn't go...

Like I just went, I went in a brief.

Like I wasn't, I wasn't wearing a body s- or a, a wetsuit or anything like that.

And so like that water's like 50 and like you can't see.

Like if you put your hand in the water you can see maybe like two feet in front of you.

You're getting hit with these waves.

This is so heavy.

(laughs)

And, um, Chris said, "You know, Ryan, uh, you should write a role for Kim." And it never even dawned on me that Kim, who was so busy, would be interested in that.

So, we did this great collaboration on American Horror Story, and Kim got great reviews because the thing about Kim is th- her life is so interesting to me, because she's always underestimated and then she triumphs against all the naysayers over and over and over again.

I would say that Kim has never lost at anything, and it's not because of any other trait other than she's so disciplined and tries and shows up and is prepared.

So, that was such a great experience.

So, I was like, I remember this phrase in the '70s, and it was something like, "Not only am I a lawyer in real life, I play one on TV."

Yeah.

Was the idea of these women are very powerful, but they're all, you know, dealing with personal relationships, so in that situation, sometimes gone wrong, it's the idea of clothes as armor.

Interesting.

Um, so I've been through a lot of different changes, you know.

Like, that t- 2000 to 2013, '14 was very, like, prestige, push it, as much sex and blood and gore and- and, you know, it was like the, it was like the- the period of the- of the white male anti-hero.

Yeah.

Like that's the thing that I never really put two and two together.

Like if you're a young family and Dad or Mom has to leave for four months, five months, what do you do? That's, that's really difficult morally, spiritually.

So anything we can do to increase reasons why tech companies have a reason to say, "Okay, we'll keep that show here."

That's insane.

So that...

I found that out later, but that put it in perspective.

No, what happened is I went to bed and I thought, "I'm gonna wake up.

I'm gonna wake up." And then I woke up and then I forgot, and then I remembered, and I turned off my phone, and I went to the live feed and I just watched them come in, and I wrote down all the different ones that my company got and I...

You know, for me at this point, it's all gravy, but I was thrilled.
