What is it about Travis that fuels that?

Well, I mean, I mean, Travis was my best friend.

He was incredible.

And, you know, I think oftentimes when we lose people, we have this way of putting people on a pedestal and maybe remembering all the good and not so much remembering the bad.

And I can unequivocally say that my brother was one of the best humans that ever walked this earth.

And every story that you have heard about him is true.

without embellishment.

And how do people run? How do they get involved? And what does it mean?

Mm-hmm.

And, and he means that when he says it, and he has so much reverence and respect for men and women that, um, that joined post-9/11, and those that, you know, served and, um, but so it was like, it was really a crazy time because I remember when 9/11 happened, and I actually wrote, I had, um, I was in English class that day, and my teacher or my professor said, you know, "Pull out a piece of paper and just write down what you're thinking." So Travis is at Navy.

My dad's in the Marine Corps.

He's a, you know-over at the Pentagon and, and Was he in there when he got hit? He wasn't.

He wasn't there that day.

No.

And so I wrote and I found it several years later in like old books.

So tell me about the foundation.

Tell us about when it started and where it's at right now.

So the foundation started really after, right after Travis was killed.

Um, you know, that was 2007, and there was no GoFundMe back then or anything.

And, and in the newspaper in Travis' obituary, um, you know, we had put in lieu of flowers, uh, please donate to the First Lieutenant Travis Manion Memorial Fund.

And my parents' friends had set up a bank account at a local bank, uh, outside of Philadelphia, and couple weeks after his funeral, we had several hundred thousand dollars in this bank account, and we were like, "Oh, crap," like, "What are we doing with this?" You know? Um, Travis wasn't married.

He had no children.

And so, um, really at first we were like, "Okay, well, what's the natural thing to do? We're gonna support, uh, initiatives at his high school and at his college." So we did some stuff at the Naval Academy.
