I know there's only so much you can say about the case itself, but can you talk about why you believe your organization is being targeted?

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
I would just say at the top, preliminarily, we've thought a lot about this particular moment as a fight and build moment, that we're charged to do two things at once.

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
We're charged to fight what's in front of us and at the same time build what must come next.

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
And on the fight side, to your point, Reverend Sharpton, we look forward to our trial, which is now set for next April, where we'll be able to make the case about why the Southern Poverty Law Center exists, what animated our founding 55 years ago, and why we have absolutely every reason to believe that we'll prevail in this case.

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
But what's important, Reverend Sharpton, to note here is just sort of the cruel, the vicious irony about the way that the Trump administration has weaponized its Department of Justice against us.

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
You know, your viewers know that the Department of Justice was created in 1870, at least in part to protect newly freed Black Americans and to aggressively prosecute the KKK.
Al SharptonHOST
Why should other civil rights and advocacy groups, even those that have nothing to do with CARE, be paying attention to this case?

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
Um, I'm outside with the baddest chairman in the land, Larry hand from the mighty mighty people's organization for progress.

Ryan HaygoodGUEST
And he, along with so many partners, ACLU of New Jersey, the legal new voters in New Jersey and others, um, you know it was just an honor to do work from the ground up to build the kind of democracy in new jersey that we really should see in america and the hope is that other states across the country led by led by grassroots organizing and advocacy will see that our states hold a real promise to build the democracy that's under assault here nationally and so thanks for your time this morning thanks for your advocacy i do want to lift up larry ham who's a super humble champion, but whose voice is critical to all the work that we do in New Jersey.
