you know responsible in my opinion we're responsible outdoors people if you're going to do the dark house spearing you need to understand the difference between a northern pike and a muskie and you need to be able to identify that before you throw your spear and if you can't well then maybe you should get fined that's my take um but i get a lot of people it's like you can't do that that's illegal it's like well it's not learn the rules and regulations of your state um Do you run into that a lot? Do you get people like, how, how can you do that? Why would you ever, why would you do that? So when you get asked that question, why do you spearfish?

Um, well, for me, uh, it's more about, it's, it's not necessarily about the harvest so much.

Uh, It's a family tradition in my family.

My grandpa, my mom's dad, taught my father how to spear.

and uh my dad would take me out spearing as a young kid and um and now i'm taking my children out um and this has been going on you know not just in my family but for other families hun you know 100 some years um so it's more of a tradition it's uh um it's kind of like deer hunting in a way with with the tradition into that it's not always about shooting a deer uh it's it's the Spearing can be a solitude activity.

I mean, you can make it as solitude as you want, but, you know, uh, spearing with people is where I have a lot of fun, you know, teach bringing people that have never gone before and, or taking family out, spending time with my kids, spending time with my friends, um, you know, just sitting around in a dark house, looking at a hole and talking and getting into some pretty deep conversations.
