After nearly 20 years here, do you feel like an Englishman living in America? Or has America fundamentally changed you as an artist and as a person?

Well, I feel very conscious of being an Englishman in America.

everywhere in America but New York City or Los Angeles or the big cities because, you know, Englishmen are very common in those places.

There's nothing unusual about being an Englishman in New York, for example, these days.

But I elsewhere, you know, in the Midwest, it's still something of a curiosity.

And that works in my favor because people will say he's an Englishman.

And that does generate a certain amount of interest, perhaps in very small towns, you know, in the Midwest or the far west where you don't meet many people.
