Can you kind of go back to basics for me? Explain what capital gains and capital gains tax is, and then what we know about it.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
Capital gains tax is the gain you make after selling sort of a property or an asset, so you are taxed on the profit.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
And at the moment, the basic rate taxpayers pay 18% capital gains tax, while higher rate taxpayers pay 24%.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
Now, it's not been on the cards, it's been a suggestion for a long time now that we equalize those taxes with income tax.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
So that would mean that basic rate taxpayers, instead of paying 18%, would pay 20%, the same rate as income tax, and then higher rate taxpayers would pay 45%.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
Now, yeah, a key ally has said this, um, but again, I think that is one of the most, it's, like, not the easiest tax to go for, but the most obvious one to go for if you are not going to touch income tax.

What do we know about the so-called mansion tax?
Will you be affected when pensions come under the scope of inheritance tax?

Ruby, probably one of the big ones is just spend some of your money while you're alive and make the most of it.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
Yeah, so let's say, like I said before, you've got your £325,000 that you've got before you even have to even think about inheritance tax.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
So really, if you're over that, really to lower your inheritance tax bill is to lower the estate value you have.

Ruby FlanaganGUEST
This is doing up the garage, doing little things like this that maybe not say you would hold off on.
