Where do you start with something like AI?

Well, quite honestly, where we have to start is recognizing that AI is still an unknown quantity, an unknown quantity for most of the population, including policymakers, perhaps especially policymakers who don't know whether to regard it as a threat or an opportunity.

And so far, we've seen what can be characterized as threats, which involve significant job loss.

We haven't seen much sign of it yet, but the possibilities of a transformative technology is that that is what may happen.

It is a general-purpose technology, and as we know from the case of electricity, it takes many decades for a technology of that nature to affect, say, manufacturing productivity or the way society works.

But we've also got lots of discussion about copyright and trawling through works of novelists and creators without recompense, and there's all sorts of consumer protection issues that arise with AI, and, um, we're seeing some of that around the world.

But the purpose of the article was to look at AI from another perspective, which was, maybe there's an opportunity there to be grasped, and we don't have much time to do it, and that opportunity is turning the general-purpose AI into industrial AI, by which we mean the application of AI to physical products and systems as a basis for new forms of manufacturing.

What would that look like in terms of helping to drive this?
