Susan BrandtHOST
Since many of us will never follow a snake around for any length of time, we had to ask Roy if he could help us imagine a typical day in the life of a rattlesnake.

Roy Arthur BlodgettGUEST
A standard, um, summer day or, like, late spring day in Northern California, um, most rattlesnakes in that kind of condition, they're gonna emerge in the morning from some sort of, um, what we would call a refugium, basically just a hiding place.

Roy Arthur BlodgettGUEST
Um-Or a log in the forest, something like that, and they're gonna go out and, and get into some sun and, and warm up a little bit.

Roy Arthur BlodgettGUEST
And then they might, um, they might set up to try and ambush, um, a rodent to eat.

Roy Arthur BlodgettGUEST
Um, most of our, um, rattlesnakes are-- they kind of specialize in consuming rodents, so they'll coil up in such a position where they're comfortable, they're at rest, but they're also able to strike, um, at a moment's notice.
